Das GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt, Hessen, sucht engagierte PhD-Physiker (aller Geschlechter) für eine wissenschaftliche Position im Bereich der Kernreaktionen. In dieser Position werden Sie Teil eines internationalen Teams, das sich mit bahnbrechenden Experimenten in der Kernphysik beschäftigt, insbesondere mit radioaktiven Strahlen und deren technischen Entwicklungen. Das R³B-Experiment ist ein zentraler Bestandteil der FAIR-NUSTAR-Säule und bietet die Möglichkeit, angehende Forschungsthemen in der Kernstruktur und Astrophysik zu adressieren.
Zu den Hauptaufgaben gehören die Überwachung und Wartung des R³B-Experiments sowie die Entwicklung spezifischer Detektoren und DAQ-Systeme. Sie sind selbstverständlich nicht allein: Die Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Experten und internationalen Partnern wird hierbei großgeschrieben. Auch die Schulung und Koordination von Studierenden und Mitarbeitern wird Teil Ihrer täglichen Arbeit sein.
Um sich für diese außergewöhnliche Stelle zu qualifizieren, sollten Sie einen Doktortitel in Physik sowie Erfahrungen in den Bereichen Kernphysik-Experimente und Detektorsysteme mitbringen. Ein solides Verständnis von Signalverarbeitung und Datenanalyse ist ebenfalls von Vorteil. Die Stelle ist zunächst auf fünf Jahre befristet, mit der Aussicht auf eine unbefristete Anstellung nach positiver Bewertung.

R3B provides the capability to pursue a broad physics program with relativistic radioactive beams addressing nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics questions. During the year 2027, the setup is planned to move to its new experimental hall in the upcoming FAIR facility, where the R3B physics program will start in early 2028. With the intense and clean beams from the Super-FRS, R3B will provide novel and unique opportunities for the research with radioactive beams.The positionWe are looking for an outstanding experimental physicist with a track record in experimental nuclear science and experience in related detection and analysis methods, to support the operation and maintenance of the R3B experiment and the further development of its science program.The work includes:
overseeing, maintenance, as well as development of the R3B experiment in collaboration with the local experts and international collaborators,
participation in the development and operation of specific detectors and DAQ systems,
taking responsibility for certain devices as a host-lab coordinator
training and coordination of collaborating local and international partners, and
the supervision of students.
The applicant is expected to take active part in the experimental program.Requirements
PhD or doctoral degree in physics
Experience in the following areas:
nuclear-physics experiments and detector systems,
signal processing and event reconstruction,
analysis and simulation of complex detection systems,
data handling and distribution.
Good spoken and written knowledge in English and at least basis knowledge in German.
Skills in organization and communication.
