Das GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt sucht engagierte Kandidaten für die Position eines Data Acquisition Specialists (all genders). Die Stelle ist ab dem 03.07.2025 verfügbar und spielt eine zentrale Rolle im Rahmen des internationalen FAIR-Projekts (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), das zu den größten Forschungsprojekten weltweit zählt.
Als Data Acquisition Specialist werden Sie Teil der NUSTAR-Kollaboration, die über 700 Wissenschaftler aus mehr als 170 Institutionen vereint. Ihre Hauptaufgaben umfassen die Entwicklung und Implementierung der Datenakquisitions- und Steuerungssysteme für NUSTAR. Dabei sind Sie verantwortlich für die Wartung und den Betrieb der entsprechenden Hardware und Software und sorgen dafür, dass alle notwendigen Dokumentationen verfügbar sind. Ebenso werden Sie als Ansprechpartner für interne und externe Gruppen bei der Integration von Detektorsystemen fungieren.
Für diese Position sollten Sie naturwissenschaftliche Qualifikationen vorweisen können, idealerweise einen Doktortitel in Physik, Elektronik oder Informationstechnologie. Mehrere Jahre Erfahrung in der Entwicklung von Datenakquisitionssystemen, besonders im Bereich der Kernphysik, sind von Vorteil. Darüber hinaus sind hervorragende organisatorische Fähigkeiten und fließende Englischkenntnisse erforderlich; Deutschkenntnisse sind wünschenswert.

Development and implementation (e.g. procurement, installation and commissioning) of the NUSTAR Data Acquisition (DAQ) and slow control systems at GSI/FAIR
Maintenance and operation of general NUSTAR DAQ hardware and software, and ensuring availability of necessary documentation
Providing support and advice to internal and external NUSTAR groups regarding the integration of detector systems into the NUSTAR DAQ
Representation of the NUSTAR sub-project within GSI/FAIR on matters relating to DAQ and/or slow control systems.
Your profile:
A PhD in physics, electronics, information technology or a related discipline
Several years of professional work experience in nuclear physics DAQ development and/or implementation, preferably in comparable scientific environments
Outstanding organisational and communication skills
Fluent in written and spoken English (German language skills desirable)
Keen interest to work within a large collaboration in a world-leading scientific environment.
