Öffentlicher Dienst: Research Assistant (m/f/d) in der Fakultät für Elektrotechnik, Professur für Medizintechnik in Hamburg, wird für das Drittmittelprojekt „Multi-Frequency SAS“ gesucht. Die Stelle ist auf befristet bis zum 31.12.2028 angesetzt und umfasst 39 Stunden pro Woche in der Entgeltgruppe 13 TVöD.

In diesem spannenden Projekt geht es darum, moderne synthetische Apertur-Sonar (SAS)-Technologien zu nutzen, um die Hochauflösungsfähigkeit unabhängig von Entfernung und Trägersignalfrequenz zu verbessern. Dringende Forschung zielt darauf ab, zusätzliche Daten zur Frequenzabhängigkeit bei der Klassifikation des Meeresbodens zu erheben und zwischen Objekten auf der Oberfläche und solchen in Sedimenten zu unterscheiden. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf der Signalverarbeitung und der Kalibrierung der Bilder, um die physikalische Eigenschaft der Rückstreuung analysierbar zu machen.

Aufgaben umfassen:

Signalverarbeitung für sinthetische Apertur-Sonare
Möglichkeit der wissenschaftlichen Qualifikation, z.B. Promotion oder Habilitation
Allgemeine administrative Tätigkeiten sowie akademische Mitverantwortung

Qualifikationen:
Ein erfolgreich abgeschlossenes Studium (Diplom oder Master) in Elektronik, Informationstechnik, Kommunikationstechnik, Physik oder verwandten Bereichen ist erforderlich. Ein tiefgehendes Wissen in digitaler Signalverarbeitung sowie Programmierkenntnisse (Python, MATLAB oder C++) sind wünschenswert. Englischkenntnisse auf mindestens B2-Niveau sind außerdem von Vorteil.

The activity takes place within the framework of the third-party funded research project «Multi-Frequency SAS». In contrast to conventional side-scan sonar, modern synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) technology offers resolution independent of distance and carrier frequency. The aim of this research project is to use multi-frequency SAS systems to obtain additional information about the frequency dependence of the data collected for seafloor classification and for discriminating between objects lying on the seafloor and those buried in the sediment. The aspects to be investigated here are the interaction of frequency-dependent propagation and imaging effects in conjunction with the signal processing with regard to image calibration. This must be considered in order to assign the physical property of backscatter strength to the SAS images and to be able to analyse it in a frequency-dependent manner. The project partner will provide the experimental facilities, including an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) / SAS hardware and data.
