Das Forschungszentrum Jülich in Nordrhein-Westfalen bietet eine spannende PhD-Position im Bereich der supraleitenden Quantensysteme an. Diese Position fällt unter die Arbeitseinheit PGI-13 – Quantum Computing und richtet sich an motivierte Physiker oder Ingenieure mit einem Masterabschluss in Physik oder Elektrotechnik.

Ihre Aufgaben

In dieser Rolle sind Sie verantwortlich für das Design und die Fabrikation supraleitender Quantenkreise. Das Aufbauen und Testen experimenteller Systeme für kryogene Messungen gehört ebenfalls zu Ihren Aufgaben. Zudem entwickeln Sie einen Mikrowellen-Quantum-Control– und Readout-Stack und programmieren in Python, um die Quantensysteme zu steuern. Die detaillierte experimentelle Charakterisierung der supraleitenden Qubits zur Leistungsquantifizierung ist ein weiterer zentraler Aspekt Ihrer Arbeit. Schließlich ist es wichtig, Quanten-Geräte zu kalibrieren und Quantenalgorithmen auszuführen, um Ihre Forschungsergebnisse international zu präsentieren.

Ihr Profil

Die Stelle erfordert ein hohes Maß an Teamarbeit und Motivation. Ideal sind erste Erfahrungen im Labor- oder Reinraumumfeld sowie Kenntnisse in Festkörperphysik und quantum information. Zudem sollten Sie über fließende Englischkenntnisse verfügen und praktische Erfahrungen mit Programmierung haben, vorzugsweise in Python.

  • Design and fabrication of superconducting quantum circuits
  • Setting up experimental systems for cryogenic measurements

The role involves working in a cryogenic laboratory environment and following specific clean room protocols

  • Master`s degree in physics or electrical engineering
  • Willingness to work in laboratory and cleanroom environments
  • Ideally, initial experience in a technical or scientific environment (e.g. cleanroom, laboratory)
  • Knowledge of solid state physics and/or quantum information
  • Experience with programming, preferably with Python
  • Fluent speaking and writing skils in English
  • Team-oriented and highly motivated to work in an experimental laboratory
  • A background in quantum computing as well as experience with cryogenics, signal delivery, microfabrication, materials optimization, and microwave control are highly preferred qualifications
